Voucher-Funded Extended Day
How the Voucher Program Works
NYC's voucher system is designed to support schools and organizations in partnership to provide extended day programming. KPP collects both ACS and HRA vouchers — funding much-needed after-school programming for families who need it most.
What the Voucher System Is
The NYC Voucher system is put in place for families to supplement childcare through organizations that work with school-aged children. It allows schools without DYCD funding to still offer extended day programming.
The process is specific in structure and function. Though it can be a timely one, it is user-friendly and works when regulations are followed.
KPP was founded specifically to provide underserved schools the best opportunity to fund extended day activities absent funding from the Department of Youth and Community Services. Once on the voucher system, KPP will also partner with schools to prepare them to apply for DYCD funding when those opportunities open.
ACS and HRA Vouchers
ACS Vouchers
Administration for Children's Services (ACS) vouchers are approved through the city's childcare assistance program. Families apply through NYC MyCity and, once approved, their voucher funds the child's participation in KPP's extended day program.
HRA Vouchers
Human Resources Administration (HRA) vouchers work similarly but are approved through a different pathway. Both ACS and HRA vouchers ultimately fund the same extended day programming — they simply reflect different family eligibility routes.
Enrollment Benchmarks
- 1
Students enrolled must not belong to or participate in any other after-school program that involves the voucher system or requires the OSIS number as identification — this presents a conflict of interest.
- 2
KPP and the school set enrollment benchmarks together to determine when extended day programming will begin.
- 3
No less than one month of voucher funding must be collected before programming begins.
- 4
Programming will begin no less than two weeks after the first month's payments have been made.
Apply for a Childcare Voucher
Families can apply for an NYC childcare voucher through the NYC MyCity portal. The application is available in multiple languages and walks families through eligibility and enrollment.
